Playground built in a hop, skip, jump

We thought last Sunday — when ESPN televised the British Open and World Cup finales, topped off by a six-hour baseball Red Sox/Rays game — was a big day.

How about Thursday as a topper?

ESPN, with funding from Disney and support from KaBOOM, joined with Bristol Boys and Girls Club volunteers and built a playground from start to finish.

ESPN topper George Bodenheimer and Team ESPN volunteers faced the blazing heat.

In six hours, they turned an empty spot in Bristol’s Brackett Park into state-of-the-art play spot for local kids and families.

Above, enjoy this time-lapse look at the birth.

For more information on the playground’s construction, see this story in the Bristol Press.
