Behind The Scenes

Pan Am Games reflections

Since Oct. 14, ESPN has been providing complete coverage of the Pan Am Games from Guadalajara, Mexico.

The 36-sport competition airs through Sunday, Oct. 30 on various ESPN platforms including ESPN Deportes, ESPN3, and ESPN Deportes Radio. ESPN2 is providing coverage in English.

Two of ESPN Deportes’ soccer commentators, Fernando Palomo and Jose “Tato” Noriega, were world-class athletes. Palomo holds the El Salvador national record in javelin. Noriega is a former star of the Mexico national soccer team. He played in the 1991 Pan Am Games final in Cuba, a 2-1 loss to the United States.

In the video above, each talks about the challenge of international competition. Highlights from previous Pan Am Games as well as this year’s opening ceremonies are included.

More than 6,000 athletes representing 42 nations from North, South, and Central America as well as the Caribbean are featured in sports ranging from baseball to track field and fencing.
