The NEXT designation recognizes athletes poised for greatness. As the odds-on favorite to reap 2011 NFL Rookie Of The Year honors, Cam Newton seems to be the embodiment of the NEXT concept.
The Carolina Panthers quarterback has had an unbelievable past 12 months: winning the 2010 Heisman Trophy; claiming the BCS National Championship at Auburn; becoming the No. 1 overall selection in the 2011 NFL draft and rewriting NFL rookie quarterbacking records.
Tuesday, he added another distinction: Newton became the first NEXT cover athlete to be revealed on the iconic ABC SuperSign in New York City’s Times Square.
