Can #Linsanity continue with Melo? OTL, First Take crews weigh in

The story of New York Knicks point guard Jeremy Lin has taken the globe by storm.

The term “Linsanity” is featured on every sports Web site and is the focal point of NBA discussion right now.

According to topsy.com, social mentions of #Linsanity have grown from under 5,000 mentions on Feb. 6 to nearly 90,000 mentions on Feb. 14 when Lin hit his game-winning shot against Toronto.

The big question now is how will the Knicks, winners of seven straight as Lin has emerged as their star, handle the impending return to the lineup of Carmelo Anthony?

Can the star forward, recovering from a groin injury that has sidelined him nearly two weeks, share the spotlight with new star Lin?

Carmelo Anthony (left, in dress clothes) is expected to rejoin Lin (next to Anthony) and the Knicks this week.

Outside The Lines got an interesting angle on that aspect of #Linsanity when Jim Boeheim — Anthony’s coach at Syracuse — was asked if he felt the two could play together.

In the video above Boeheim said, “For somebody to assert that Carmelo Anthony can’t play with somebody is the most ridiculous statement that I’ve ever heard.”

He later explains his reasoning.

In the video below, ESPN First Take host Jay Crawford leads a discussion with Bomani Jones, Jemele Hill and Michael Smith about the merit of #Linsanity.

Check out their spirited debate.

Whatever the case, Lin told New York’s ESPN Radio 1050 that Melo has vouched for him.

On ABC this Sunday, Feb. 19 at 1 p.m. ET, the Knicks will play host to the reigning NBA champion Dallas Mavericks.
