Behind The Scenes

Power of IX: Testimonials

Have you been hearing a lot about Title IX lately?

ESPN has been working hard behind the scenes for months, as the company recognizes the 40th anniversary of Title IX. This legislation inspired many women across the United States to join an athletic team.

ESPN talked to many athletes, coaches, and co-workers about how Title IX affected their lives. In the video above, you’ll hear from — among others — the WNBA’s Swin Cash, Cappie Pondexter, and Tina Thompson, Oklahoma basketball coach Sherri Coale, and espnW vice president Laura Gentile.

The three-month long companywide initiative will culminate with June 23’s day of women in sports programming across ESPN, ESPN2, ABC, ESPNU and ESPN Classic.

ESPN is also in the process of counting down the top 40 female athletes of the past 40 years on SportsCenter and espnW, with No. 1 announced on June 22. You can actively participate by helping to create the largest mosaic of female athletes ever!
