2012 ESPYS: Brees, Tebow, Davis and more light up the night of stars

The annual summer convergence of sports and other celebrities is over. The 2012 ESPYS Presented by Capital One, with host Rob Riggle, aired Wednesday live from Los Angeles.

The celebration of the best moments from the year in sports featured plenty of humor and highlights, reflected in the photos from ESPN Images we’ve collected in the gallery above.

Just hours before news broke today that Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints had reached an agreement on a five-year, $100 million contract — including an NFL record $60 million guaranteed — he was in the Nokia Theatre to accept an ESPY for “Best Record-Breaking Performance.” In 2011, Brees passed for an NFL record 5,476 yards, smashing Dan Marino’s 27-year-old league mark.

The night was star-studded with plenty of other newsmakers including recent NBA No. 1 overall draft pick Anthony Davis and New York Jets quarterback Tim Tebow. To read more about the event, click here.

For every party, someone is left with cleanup duty. The video below explains how ESPN keeps the ESPYS as green as possible in its ongoing efforts to limit impact on the environment.
