Behind The Scenes

ESPN NFL analyst Cris Carter previews his new book on WRs

NFL analyst Cris Carter knows a thing or two about wide receivers.

A decade removed from his 16-year NFL playing career (1987-2002), the 2012 Pro Football Hall of Fame finalist continues to rank among the all-time greats at the position.

He understands the importance of wide receivers in today’s pass-happy offenses, and he has mentored top current players like Randy Moss and Larry Fitzgerald.

With his unique perspective, Carter is embarking on a new project that will give fans a more in-depth look at wide receivers.

Hyperion Books announced today that Carter is writing a new book with ESPN.com senior writer Jeffri Chadiha called GOING DEEP: How Wide Receivers Became the Most Compelling Figures in Pro Sports. The book will be published in August 2013.

In the video above — shot at the Malibu, Calif., beach set where ESPN’s NFL studio team recently filmed its new promos — Carter discussed the new book project and what fans can expect from GOING DEEP.
