Fans are accustomed to seeing ESPN’s Rachel Nichols often during the NFL season.

The New York-based bureau reporter and E:60 correspondent is responsible for weekly features throughout the season for SportsCenter, Sunday NFL Countdown, Monday Night Countdown and other programs, and filing regular reports from team sites and stadiums on NFL Sundays.

In addition to continuing all of the above during the 2012 season, Nichols will also serve as the sideline reporter for ESPN’s season-opening Monday Night Football doubleheader game on Sept. 10 at 10:15 p.m. ET — with Chris Berman and Trent Dilfer — when the Raiders host the Chargers in Oakland.

In the Front & Center podcast above, Nichols discusses the MNF assignment, her upcoming E:60 story on Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis and expectations for covering the Super Bowl champion New York Giants training camp. She also sheds light on the unique experience of reporting from Brett Favre’s lawn in Hattiesburg, Miss., during past summers, an opportunity that was better than fans might think.
