From 1990 to 2005, Robin Roberts shined at ESPN as one of the network’s most versatile commentators. Her assignments included anchoring SportsCenter, contributing to NFL PrimeTime and reporting on myriad other sports.

Even though she’s been greeting ABC audiences for nearly a decade since leaving Bristol to become a co-host of ABC’s Good Morning America, Roberts made quite an impression with her ESPN colleagues. In the video above, they salute her on the occasion of her receiving the Arthur Ashe Courage Award during tonight’s 2013 ESPYS telecast from Los Angeles (ESPN, 9 p.m. ET).

“Robin’s accomplishments in so many areas — as an athlete, a broadcaster, a cancer survivor and more — demonstrate her ability to shine regardless of adversity,” said ESPN President John Skipper. “We could not be more proud to honor her as the recipient of this year’s Arthur Ashe Courage Award.”

LeBron James will present Roberts with the award.

This year marks the show’s 21st telecast. Actor Jon Hamm, widely known for his role as Don Draper on AMC’s award-winning series Mad Men, is the host.
