This year, ESPN’s internship program received more than 15,000 applications. The company selected 70 interns and 16 of them were from Southeastern Conference institutions. Often, schools produce more than one quality candidate.
Front Row introduces you to interns from SEC schools – nine students today, seven on Tuesday – to coincide with the SEC coaches who are visiting ESPN this week.

How does ESPN’s café compare to your favorite pre-game tailgate meal?
The best thing at ESPN’s café is the chicken parmesan sandwich, but it doesn’t compare to the BBQ served at the Junction on a Mississippi State game day.

What’s your internship housing like?
I have no complaints about our location. I’ve been able to work on my turnaround jumper on the outdoor [basketball] court. The housing is close enough that we don’t have to worry about rush hour, and we can go right back to campus if we want to work out.

What’s the most interesting feature of ESPN’s campus as compared to your school’s campus?
At ESPN, it’s the integration of sports history on the walls as art in photos or diagrams. At LSU, it’s the historic buildings and prestigious oak trees.

How have you enjoyed living in Connecticut?
Living in Bristol is completely different than anything I’m used to. Moving from Alabama to Connecticut was somewhat of a culture shock. I’ve really enjoyed living with the rest of the interns.

What’s been your coolest ESPN experience so far?
I still get a kick out of telling my friends that I ran on the treadmill next to [NFL analyst] Herm Edwards.

What’s it been like for you living in New York City?
It has been very fast paced with a ton to do. Sometimes, it can be a little overwhelming, but overall it has been a great opportunity to explore the city.

What’s been your coolest ESPN experience so far?
There’s too many to choose from but so far I think my coolest ESPN experience is having the opportunity to interview six-time X Games medalist Nyjah Huston.

Whether you want beach, mountains, shopping, good food, art scene or the sports scene, Southern California has it all.

What do you think is the most interesting feature of ESPN’s Bristol, Conn. campus?
I love the championship banners that line the main hall of the North Campus. I get to walk by the Alabama football one every day on my way to lunch.
