Disney offers free ‘Veterans Institute’ workshop to encourage and support hiring of military veterans

Heroes Work Here

Just one of the great things about working at Disney — and something I deeply value — is seeing firsthand the positive impact the Company makes on people and communities around the country. One great example is the Heroes Work Here initiative, which helps U.S. veterans make successful transitions from active duty to civilian life.

Building on the success of the “Heroes Work Here” initiative — which we launched in March 2012 with a commitment to hire more than 1,000 veterans by 2015, a goal that we’ve already surpassed — Disney will host the Veterans Institute at Walt Disney World on Thursday, Nov. 14. The daylong, complimentary workshop is designed to help small – and mid-sized companies build effective veteran -hiring programs of their own. The Veterans Institute is the latest effort in our company’s long history of respect and appreciation for the U.S. Armed Services.

For participants, the Veterans Institute will truly be an inspirational event. From an exclusive look at Heroes Work Here and renowned keynote speakers, panelists, Disney on-air talent and personalities to customized Disney Institute courses, attendees can learn how to successfully employ servicemen and servicewomen transitioning to the private sector.

“Our Heroes Work Here program not only helps us find and hire highly qualified veterans, it also supports veterans and their families as they transition out of the military,” Bob Iger, Chairman and CEO, The Walt Disney Company, says. “We’re happy to share what we’ve learned with other organizations so that more of these modern-day heroes have the tools and opportunities to build meaningful careers in the private sector.”
