“I’m just this girl who had this dream of hosting SportsCenter.”

If there was ever a quote to capture Sage Steele in a nutshell – the perfect blend of passion, energy and humility which makes her one of the most respected sports commentators in media today – this is it.

After several years on SportsCenter, Steele was named the host of the Friday and Sunday editions of ESPN’s NBA pre-game studio show, Kia NBA Countdown, prior to the 2013-14 NBA season. Steele, alongside Bill Simmons, Jalen Rose and Doug Collins, made their debut on Nov. 1.

During this Front & Center podcast, Steele dives into several topics, including how she is creating chemistry with her new Countdown colleagues, memories of watching the NBA with her dad, Gary Steele, and the impact his journey had on her career (Gary was the first African-American varsity football player at West Point).

Ever gracious, Steele points to ESPN colleagues like Hannah Storm and Doris Burke, who continue to pave the way for so many females in the sports media field.

Kia NBA Countdown will air at 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPN/WatchESPN with Sage Steele, Jalen Rose and Bill Simmons and will precede our ESPN NBA doubleheader (Collins is off this week). At 8 p.m., the Minnesota Timberwolves will visit the Denver Nuggets and at 10:30 p.m. the Sacramento Kings will host the Detroit Pistons.
