As many of us gather this week with family, ESPN’s enthusiastic basketball ambassador Dick Vitale is focused on the family of Lacey Holsworth, the eight-year-old Michigan State fan whose memorial service was Thursday. Holsworth died recently after a battle with cancer and after inspiring the Spartans’ basketball team and college fans nationwide.

“At just eight years of age, Lacey, with her beautiful smile and spirit, touched me and so many people,” Vitale said. “When she lost her battle last week, I promised her father I would keep her spirit alive by raising $250,000 in her honor for a pediatric cancer research grant through The V Foundation for Cancer Research. I am determined to do it for Lacey’s family and all the families facing this dreaded disease.”

In just a few days Vitale is already $55,000 toward the goal. Fans can join Vitale here.
