The 2014 NBA Finals tip off in just a few hours as the two-time, reigning NBA Champion Miami Heat face the San Antonio Spurs in a rematch of last year’s Finals. Game 1 starts at 9 p.m. ET on ABC, ESPN Radio and ESPN Deportes. NBA Countdown will precede the broadcast at 8:30 p.m.

One of the staples of ABC’s top-notch NBA Finals coverage is the broadcast open, which highlights the greatest moments, teams and players in NBA history. ESPN senior coordinating producer Tim Corrigan, the leader of ESPN’s NBA production team, told Front Row how the team updated and upgraded this year’s piece:

“The focus of this year’s piece is to elevate the production of each NBA Finals moment with a richer treatment and a greater level of authenticity,” Corrigan said. “In addition, we remixed the audio, to include fewer calls, which allows each moment more space and to provide the opportunity for the musical score to lead the piece.”
