Creators and producers of 30 for 30 series share thoughts on fifth anniversary

When 30 for 30 began in the fall of 2009, the concept was to produce 30 documentaries to celebrate ESPN’s 30 years. Now, well past the original number of films and with various offshoot film series, the creators and producers of the popular sports documentary series talk about how far 30 for 30 has come and what makes ESPN Films so successful.

The video above will take you behind the camera with interviews from 30 for 30 co-creators Bill Simmons and Connor Schell. Also featured: Libby Geist, ESPN Films senior director, Development; John Dahl, executive producer; Dan Silver, senior director, Development; Jenna Anthony, associate manager, Development; and Andy Billman, producer.

The latest film in the 30 for 30 series, Brothers in Exile, premieres tonight (9 ET, ESPN). Directed by Mario Diaz, the film tells the story of how brothers Livan and Orlando “El Duque” Hernandez fled Cuba and became baseball stars in the United States.
