Word Association: Coaches know National Signing Day is still a fax-driven basis

Facts on the Faxes

Let the fax festival commence! ESPNU will have marathon National Signing Day coverage of who’s sending faxes where, with an 11 hour ESPNU Signing Day Special which will feature the announcement of No. 1 recruit, DE Byron Cowart, and entertainment icon Snoop Dogg’s son WR Cordell Broadus, as well as 15 more impact players announcing their college destination live. ESPN will simulcast coverage from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. ET.

Additionally, SportsCenter, SEC Network, Longhorn Network, ESPN.com’s Recruiting Nation and ESPN3 will have coverage throughout the day.

National Signing Day (Wednesday, February 4) signals a fresh start for college football programs. The day officially welcomes in a new class of players, signals spring football is right around the corner and confirms the past season is fully in the rearview mirror. However, as everything about the day points toward the future, there is one key element that signals the past: the fax machine.

The revolutionary technology of the 20th century still holds importance inside athletic departments even in the technologically-advanced year of 2015. Coaching staffs everywhere wait to hear the familiar dial-up internet shrill which brings to mind a simpler time – namely the 1980s and 1990s.

In the video above, Front Row played a quick game of “fax machine” word association with some of the nation’s most recognizable coaches.
