2015 ESPYS house band rapper Crown remembers Stuart Scott

During last year’s ESPYS, SoCal rapper Crown tuned into the show from his couch to watch Stuart Scott’s inspiring speech upon receiving the Jimmy V Award for Perseverance. This year, Crown and his band The M.O.B. are going to be the ones on stage as the official ESPYS house band playing at certain points throughout the show.

But while they prep and rehearse for their award show debut, Crown can’t help but remember his favorite on-air personality: “Stu brought a new spin, different tone, and honestly introduced hip hop to the network, quoting lyrics and adding them to ESPN programming.”

Crown has opened for the likes of Busta Rhymes and Lil Kim, and the members of the M.O.B. have played with everyone from Dr. Dre to Justin Timberlake.

Host Joel McHale will be joined on stage by the world’s premier athletes and some of Hollywood’s biggest stars when The 2015 ESPYS Presented by Capital One come to Los Angeles. The 23rd annual celebration of the best moments from the year in sports will be televised live from the Microsoft Theater on Wednesday, July 15, at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.

The ESPYS support ESPN’s ongoing commitment to The V Foundation for Cancer Research, launched by ESPN with the late Jim Valvano in 1993.
