Behind The Scenes

Before racing in St. Petersburg, defending Indy 500 champ Montoya pit stops at ESPN

Juan Pablo Montoya is one of the fastest people on four wheels, one of the few race drivers in history to have won in IndyCar, Formula One and NASCAR.

The defending Indianapolis 500 champion is ready to pursue a Verizon IndyCar Series season championship when the campaign officially begins with the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg on Sunday, March 13 (ABC, 12:30 p.m. ET).

During a recent visit to ESPN’s Bristol, Conn. campus, Montoya – a native of Colombia who now resides in Key Biscayne, Fla., – made appearances on a number of ESPN and ESPN Deportes platforms. In the video above, he talks about his visit as well as his anticipation for this season. Montoya won the St. Petersburg race last season.

Samantha Baron, Andy Hall and Taylor Garrett produced the video above.
Verizon supplied the photo Juan Pablo Montoya’s 2016 car as seen in the video.
