Work of art: Preview ESPN’s Labor Day weekend college football slate

“Welcome back to college football – Week 1, there ain’t nothing weak about it.” – Tom Rinaldi

The best kickoff week ever in college football has arrived. The five-day event (Sept. 1-Sept. 5) is highlighted by seven marquee games over Labor Day weekend (Sept. 3-5).

“This is my 15th season working on college football, and it’s by far the deepest and most robust lineup we’ve had,” ESPN director of programming and acquisition Kurt Dargis told Awful Announcing.

“It’s the one week where there is no NFL competition sitting there on Sunday for college football to have this kind of barrage of great games to come out of the gate, it’s too big an opportunity to pass up,” ESPN Vice President of Programming and Acquisitions Nick Dawson told The Oklahoman.

To put in perspective what fans are in store for, ESPN’s Tom Rinaldi voices a whiteboard preview for the must-see slate of games. Summer is over, but college football is here.
