‘Hawk returns to nest: Matt Hasselbeck visits Seattle with Countdown

On Monday night, former Seahawks quarterback Matt Hasselbeck will step on to Seattle’s CenturyLink Field for the first time as an ESPN analyst. Alongside his former Seahawks teammate Trent Dilfer and the Monday Night Countdown crew, Hasselbeck will preview the Buffalo Bills-Seattle Seahawks matchup (8:15 p.m. ET, ESPN).

The 18-year NFL veteran spent 10 seasons in the Pacific Northwest, leading the Seahawks to the playoffs six times and to the first Super Bowl appearance in franchise history in 2005.

Hasselbeck spoke with Front Row about his time in Seattle, his favorite memories as a Seahawk and what kind of impact “The 12s” – the Seahawks’ famed flag-waving fan base, which is notoriously loud – have on their hometown team.

Trent Dilfer and Matt Hasselbeck started a wine collection?

Trent Dilfer, who was also a quarterback on the Seahawks roster from 2001-04, said Matt Hasselbeck might have been the greatest teammate he ever had in 14 NFL seasons. He also explained how he helped Hasselbeck start a wine collection:

“Whenever we would win, for every touchdown pass that he threw, I bought him a bottle of wine and then wrote the name of the play on it. He threw a bunch [of touchdowns], so I bought a lot of nice bottles of wine. And the quality of the wine depended on the quality of the touchdown throw. So he got to start a nice wine collection off memories of his touchdown passes.”
