What’s old can be new again

Editor’s Note: Today is Earth Day. This week, Front Row is highlighting some of the ways ESPN and its employees are working to promote environmental awareness. Gerard Arrotti, ESPN’s Senior Director of Facility Safety and Health, posts on the latest electronics recycling drive.

We’re collecting old electronics from our employees which will be recycled [more than 10,000 pounds were collected from employees in November 2010].

This is extremely important because many people don’t know what to do with an old printer or stereo.

This equipment contains lead and other heavy metals which can contaminate groundwater if it is thrown in with regular trash that is landfilled.

This effort is as much about education as it is about recycling.
