As Ernie Banks might have put it, “Let’s build two.”
Tuesday, ESPN broke ground on Digital Center 2, the 19th and –at 193,000 square feet — the largest building on the Bristol campus.
The “DC2” will be adjacent to the existing Digital Center.
The new four-story building will help increase ESPN’s production capacity.
It will house four studios, six production control rooms, 26 edits rooms and more — including the eventual new home of SportsCenter.
In addition, the new facility will help create between 200 and 800 new jobs within the next five years.
It’s a commitment hailed by Connecticut Gov. Dannel P. Malloy, who was among those present at the groundbreaking.
ESPN is the third Connecticut company involved in the state’s new economic development plan called “First Five.”
Wednesday, Front Row will have more details on the DC2 project.
