Jaws, Polian, Rice and Schlereth share NFL Draft Day memories

Ron Jaworski found out the Los Angeles Rams had selected him with the 37th pick in the 1973 NFL Draft after a foreign exchange student handed him the pay phone in his Youngstown (Ohio) State College dormitory.

Jerry Rice’s path to a Hall of Fame career in the NFL began with a brief telephone conversation with legendary 49ers coach Bill Walsh welcoming him to the team as the 16th pick in the 1985 Draft.

While their careers took different paths, the draft day memories of ESPN NFL analysts endure well beyond their playing days.

As ESPN begins its coverage of the 2013 NFL Draft, Front Row caught up with some analysts — including Mark Schlereth and Bill Polian — who shared their draft day memories.

ESPN’s 34th consecutive year of live NFL Draft coverage begins tonight at 8 p.m. ET, and continues Friday through Saturday. Each day of the coverage will be preceded by SportsCenter Special: On the Clock and SportsCenter Special: Draft Countdown shows.
