Behind The Scenes

Cowherd and Kimmel to talk brackets and more today at 12:30 p.m. ET on ESPN Radio

Last week the buzz around Colin Cowherd’s daily radio show centered on landing President Barack Obama for an interview. This week, the focus shifts to another prominent American: ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel, who is scheduled for a 12:30 p.m. ET phone interview on The Herd, which is originating from Los Angeles this week.

“Given the traffic out here in LA, I initially called Jimmy to see if we could carpool to work,” Cowherd said. “After he turned that down, I still figured it would be great to have him on the show.”

Today On “The Herd”
(All Times Eastern):

10:15 a.m. – Spanning the Globe: The top stories from around sports

10:45 a.m. – Six-time NBA Champ/Hall of Famer Kareem Abdul Jabbar (in studio)

11:15 a.m. – Former NY Giants Offensive Coordinator Kevin Gilbride (in Bristol, Conn. studio)

11:30 a.m. – Dallas Mavericks Owner Mark Cuban

12:15 p.m. – ESPN.com NBA writer Brian Windhorst

12:30 p.m. – ABC talk show host Jimmy Kimmel

And there will be no shortage of topics for the two men to discuss, especially regarding the on-going NCAA Tournament. First, there’s the video above from Jimmy Kimmel Live (daily, 11:35 p.m., ABC), where Los Angeles pedestrians are asked to “Name a College Basketball Player.” The results are hilarious. . .if not a bit demoralizing for NCAA basketball fans.

There’s also the matter of Kimmel’s ESPN Tournament Challenge bracket, where the late night host finds himself at the very bottom in the Celebrity Central pool, with his predicted champion, Kansas, already eliminated.

“Every time we’re in Los Angeles, we look to catch up with people we usually don’t have access to,” said The Herd’s producer, Vincent Kates. “So we reached out a couple weeks before coming into town and our booker Josh Drew got with Jimmy’s people and arranged for it to happen.”

Kimmel has appeared on The Herd before, memorably last November when Cowherd had Larry King in studio.

“It actually was Jimmy’s birthday that day and he jokingly wasn’t happy that Colin didn’t wish him ‘Happy Birthday’,” Kates said. “But Colin is a big fan of Jimmy. I’m not sure of Jimmy’s feelings toward Colin, but we’ll find out today!”

The Herd airs weekdays from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. on ESPN Radio, espnradio.com, ESPN Radio app, Sirius XM and simulcast on ESPNU.
