Intern Chronicles: What will you always remember from your ESPN internship?

Not many people can say they interned at the company they have wanted to work for since they were 12 years old (ask my parents, I used to wear an Eat, Sleep, Watch ESPN shirt once a week). I, along with the others included in this slideshow, will always remember the internship experience at ESPN. Front Row asked multiple interns, “What will you always remember from your ESPN internship?”

Carol Allen
Affiliate Sales & Marketing Intern
Denison University senior

“I was able to sit in and contribute to negotiations involving multi-million dollar contracts that are changing the future of the media industry. I will never forget the detail in which each member of the team analyzed every paragraph and how one word can change the entire meaning of an agreement.”

Kaysia Booze
Event Marketing Intern
Mississippi State University senior

“I had the honor of attending the ESPYS’ Body Party, Red Carpet, Award Show and Post Party. Never in my life did I imagine I would be working an event like the ESPYS and I especially did not think I would get to enjoy walking down the red carpet with a plethora of my favorite celebrities.”

Shelby Clayton
Multimedia Sales Intern
University of Georgia graduate

“My favorite memory from my internship is when [a social media company] came to our office to share and pitch their products to our sales department. Outside of the awesome meetings, I will always remember the incredible and talented people in my department that have welcomed me this summer to work hands-on with their teams.”

Shelby Daniels
Production Operations Intern
University of Missouri senior

“Something I will always remember about this internship is the diversity we were allowed and the encouragement to expand our skills while working. I was able to shadow any group I wanted and, as a result, learn a lot of things outside of the group I was assigned to.”

Raven Davis
Facilities & Development Planning Intern

“I think the best part was attending the Special Olympics. My experience at the Games from start until I left was very positive, inspirational and a life lesson that it’s never too late to start your dream no matter how old you are.”

Through talking with employees in Programming, Product and Software Development, I learned how the different departments work together to serve sports fans as technology continues to change the industry.”

Alex Grant
Programming & Acquisitions Digital Media Intern
University of South Carolina senior

“I’ll always remember my second Friday here. My supervisor was out of town at a conference and one of the PCs suggested we take a walk to grab coffee. Twenty minutes later I was in Studio X sitting in the chair at the SportsCenter desk. I knew from that moment that there would never be any such thing as a typical day at ESPN.”

Randeep Gupta
Digital Media Product Management Intern
University of Connecticut senior

“The best part of working in this department was the chance to work with the folks outside ESPN like DraftKings, PlayStation and DIRECTV to help create products which will be beneficial for everyone. My first day at work, I was on a call with folks from PlayStation (Sony). You have been using PlayStation all your life and now, because you work for ESPN, you get an opportunity to collaborate with Sony to create world-class products for the users.”

Preston Hiefield

“One memory that I’m definitely never going to forget is making my SportsCenter debut. Jonathan Coachman wanted to make a Fourth of July-themed skit to serve as a lead into the Hot Dog Eating contest highlight. Naturally, I volunteered to dress up in a hot dog costume… and the rest is history.”

First Take is one of my favorite shows of all-time so working behind the scenes and editing video for the show was honestly a dream come true. “What made this internship one of the best experiences I will ever have was the people I had the privilege to meet and work with. From day one, they took me under their wings, investing in me day-in and day-out. Because of them, I’m a better professional and better man than I was when I walked into ‘Rookie camp.'”

The scheduled 10-minute interview turned into an hour and a half talking to her about her life, my life and even how much fun it is to watch Stephen Curry play basketball. She could not have been nicer and loved that I was assigned the story during my second week at ESPN.”
