To celebrate Super Bowl 50, ESPN, Disney, the NFL, KaBOOM!, and community partner LifeSTEPS, built a playground for kids in San Jose with the help of more than 200 volunteers, including Andrew Tiller with the San Francisco 49ers. (L-R) San Francisco 49ers players Kendall Gaskins, Kenneth Acker and Brandon Thomas volunteered to help build the play space, which was finished in less than 8 hours. George Atkinson III with the Oakland Raiders lent his support to the effort as well to help ensure that the youth in the community have access to a safe, accessible play space within walking distance of where they live or go to school. ESPN teamed with the San Francisco 49ers, the NFL, Special Olympics Northern California and Football Camp for the Stars, to host a Unified (pairing teammates with and without intellectual disabilities) flag football clinic and game. San Francisco 49er Arik Armstead helped lead the drills in the Special Olympics Unified flag football game. ESPN NFL analyst Herm Edwards teaches proper safety techniques at a USA Football tackling and blocking clinic in lead up to the Super Bowl. The clinic was part of ESPN’s ongoing commitment to USA Football in an effort to create a better, safer game.
