espnW makes an impact in Chicago

Senior Vice President, espnW & Women’s Initiatives, Laura Gentile, opens the espnW: Women + Sports Chicago Summit.

Notable attendees at the Summit include:

  • Gatorade CMO Morgan Flatley, who delivered a keynote address on “Innovation at Gatorade.”
  • Local sports stars Elena Delle Donne of the Chicago Sky and 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup Champion/Chicago Red Stars defender Julie Johnston were also showcased.
  • Prospective fellow Olympians: World champion wrestler Adeline Gray; fencer Ibtihaj Muhammad; paratriathlete and Iraqi War veteran Melissa Stockwell; and water polo gold medalist Maggie Steffens were on the “Road to Rio” panel.

espnW hosted the inaugural espnW: Women + Sports Chicago Summit Wednesday, bringing its signature conference series to the Midwest. Emceed by espnW writer and ESPN Radio host Sarah Spain, a native Chicagoan, the one-day conference included discussions, presentations and activities geared towards advancing the agenda of women in sports and focused around the “Make an Impact” theme. espnW’s Julie Foudy and SportsCenter: Coast to Coast host Cari Champion moderated several panels and ESPN executives including Senior Vice President, espnW & Women’s Initiatives, Laura Gentile; Editor-in-Chief, espnW & ESPN The Magazine Alison Overholt; Executive Vice President, Digital & Print, John Kosner; President, ESPN Global Sales & Marketing, Ed Erhardt; and Vice President, Women’s Sports Programming, Carol Stiff were in attendance.
