ESPN’s Paul Carcaterra honored with Doyle Smith Media Award

“It is a great honor to be recognized as an individual who has contributed to the sport from a media standpoint at this level. I’m fortunate to be singled out as someone who has impacted the sport and the way that it is covered.”

Former Syracuse midfielder Paul Carcaterra’s interest in the sport has never wavered, even years after his collegiate career ended in the 1990s. Since joining ESPN in 2010, the college sports reporter and lacrosse analyst has helped elevate the sport’s exposure. Carcaterra was recognized for those contributions by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association. During an IMLCA/USILA Nike Awards luncheon in Baltimore on Dec. 9, he was honored as the recipient of the 2016 Doyle Smith Sports Information/Media Award.

“I feel the company [ESPN] has given lacrosse a foundation for national growth. Kids have something to strive for as players and often dream to play on our network one day,” he said. “It’s my hope that I can continue to fuel these youngsters with knowledge of the sport in a fun and creative way – one that is relatable to the next generation of lacrosse players.”
