Sports industry reacts to Brent Musburger announcement

Brent Musburger’s long run as one of sports broadcasting’s iconic voices will end on ESPN next week, the network announced today.

Musburger, 77, will call his final game Jan. 31 on ESPN as the Kentucky Wildcats play host to the Georgia Bulldogs at Rupp Arena (9 p.m. ET). Musburger’s career was celebrated by his colleagues on ESPN’s airwaves, including Bob Ley and Jeremy Schaap on ESPN’s Outside The Lines (see video below).

Earlier today, Front Row assembled a salute to Musburger’s career, which included a run on CBS’ national platform in the 1970s and 80s and flourished again when he joined ABC in 1990 and ESPN, which absorbed ABC Sports, afterward.

Here’s a sampling of social media reaction, from peers inside and outside of ESPN as well as fans and sports institutions.
