On June 24, 2010 at Wimbledon on ESPN, American tennis star John Isner competed in the longest match in recorded history against France’s Nicolas Mahut.
The epic encounter lasted 11 hours and 5 minutes spanning three days and ultimately resulted in Isner’s victory.
After a prosperous pro playing career that began in 2007, Isner retired following last year’s US Open. He now joins the ESPN tennis on-air team as a guest commentator at Wimbledon from Monday, July 1 to Sunday, July 7.
Isner is renowned for his powerful serve and – at 6 feet, 10 inches tall — his distinction as the third-tallest player on the ATP tour.
And he certainly had the knack for legendary and lengthy All England Lawn Tennis Club showdowns.

In 2018, Isner again was at the center of Wimbledon marathon, this time in the second-longest match in recorded history (6 hours, 36 minutes). South African Kevin Anderson won that Centre Court semifinal.
A four-year All-American at the University of Georgia before turning pro, Isner won 16 ATP Singles titles and reached a career-high ranking as world No. 8 in 2018.
