Three things to know about ESPN’s NBA Eastern Conference Finals coverage

The Knicks and Cavaliers begin the quest for an NBA Finals berth with Game 1 tonight at MSG; Tim Corrigan previews what makes ESPN's storytelling unique

The 2026 NBA Eastern Conference Finals tip off tonight at Madison Square Garden, home of the New York Knicks, as they take on the Cleveland Cavaliers (8 ET, ESPN).

Tim Corrigan (SVP, Sports Production) previewed ESPN’s robust Conference Finals coverage with three things he’s most looking forward to below:

1. Evolving chemistry: “We are excited about our new booth with Mike Breen, Tim Legler, Richard Jefferson and Lisa Salters. Tim’s a great story, having earned his way into our lead spot after 25 incredible years as a [studio] analyst on SportsCenter and all of our NBA shoulder programming. ‘Legs’ and Richard bring their expertise as former players to educate and teach in an entertaining way. Lisa will continue in her role as a reporter and elite storyteller, while Mike is the consummate professional in documenting the game and the stories. He’s always finding the right call, emotion and tone to meet the moment.”

2. Elevation sensations: “The addition of the Inside the NBA team will elevate our production through both the Conference Finals and the NBA Finals. It’s been a season-long success both in terms of viewership and our relationship with the show as we’ve welcomed Ernie [Johnson], Shaq [O’Neal], Kenny [Smith] and Charles [Barkley] to our team. The Inside team is always interesting, as it delivers unfiltered banter full of memorable quotes, brutal honesty and unmatched chemistry.”

3. Unique crossover: “[Disney+’s] The Mandalorian and Grogu star Pedro Pascal was an amazing ‘get’ to set the tone for our Eastern Conference Finals Game 1 open. ‘Voices of the East’ is our theme and celebrates the voices of legendary players, broadcasters and moments that live in NBA folklore. Pedro was an incredible teammate, and we are so appreciative of his time and support of this project.”
