Greenberg, Cowherd to combine for 7-hour ESPN Radio shift — with a 7-minute break to change studios

Usually, life presents a sprint or a marathon.

Tomorrow, ESPN Radio’s Mike Greenberg and Colin Cowherd will be facing both.

With Greeny’s Mike & Mike in the Morning co-host Mike Golic off (that’s another story — well, same story, just see below), Cowherd will fill-in for “Big Mike.”

Then, after that 6-10 a.m. ET studio share, Greenberg technically will make Cowherd’s life easier by sittin’ in on The Herd from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. to complete their seven-hour radio marathon.

“I’m very easy to be around — many of my ex-wives will tell you that,” Colin says with a “What, me worry?” attitude.

Predictably, Greenberg is approaching the prolonged partnership with perceptibly more prudence.

“I’m not quite sure how we will manage to do seven hours without having mutual nervous breakdowns,” he says. “We are probably the two most neurotic people on Earth.”

His fears might be warranted.

“Seven-minute segments with Greeny are a challenge,” Cowherd warns. “I have to set him straight constantly. He knows I’m right and he’s wrong, so it will be a battle. It will be a seven-hour tug-of-war.”

And even the “halftime” break will be tricky.

“Seven minutes to get between DC Studio E and Radio Control 2 will be tight,” cautions Mike & Mike producer Liam Chapman.

The sprint across catwalks connecting the Digital Center and Buildings 1 and 2 will be shot with the video appearing on ESPNRadio.com later in the day.

Providing an objective (?) look at Friday’s pairing, Golic says simply, “There will not be enough air in the room for those two to sustain seven hours of conversation.”

Oh, and what’s Golic’s story?

“I’m heading to Montgomery, Ala., for my son Mike’s college all-star game [Saturday’s Raycom College Football All-Star Classic],” he says, shaking his head recalling the Alabama Crimson Tide bouncing his Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the BCS Championship game.

“And while I will congratulate every Crimson Tide fan I see, I will also be wearing my Notre Dame gear proudly.”

Show Notes: Guests will include Drew Brees (9:30 a.m.). There are regularly anticipated segments including Stone Cold Lead Pipe Locks, Wiser Guys and The Simultaneous Game, will run as usual. Besides Brees, the guest rundown: 8:15 a.m. Ron Jaworski; 8:45 a.m. Tim Hasselbeck; 10:45 a.m. Tyler Hamilton; 12:15 p.m. Trey Wingo and Mark Schlereth.
