Filmmaker Ken Burns shares his thoughts on ESPN’s storytelling, baseball programs

Award-winning filmmaker and documentarian Ken Burns recently visited ESPN’s Bristol, Conn. campus to discuss his most recent project – an initiative encouraging students and adults to memorize the Gettysburg Address in honor of its 150th anniversary.

ESPN commentators and analysts – including Chris Berman, Keith Olbermann, Bob Ley, Stephen A. Smith, Hannah Storm, Sage Steele, Mike Tirico, Jalen Rose, Tedy Bruschi, Lou Holtz and many more – assisted with the effort, recording a unique mash-up for the project’s website at LearntheAddress.org.

Burns appeared on SportsCenter and numerous other ESPN shows, including Olbermann in which he discussed plans for another installment in his acclaimed “Baseball” documentary series. Burns also was a guest for a question-and-answer session with employees.

In the video above, Burns sat down with Front Row to recap his experience and discuss the evolution of storytelling at ESPN. He also shares his observations on ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball and Baseball Tonight.
