Today’s Throwback Thursday goes back nearly two decades to February 28, 1997 for “ESPN Town Meeting: Sports In Black & White,” hosted by Ted Koppel of ABC News. The event took place in Washington D.C. and the discussion was part of a three-hour primetime ESPN special including an Outside The Lines feature, “Breaking The Line: Jackie Robinson’s Legacy.”

Critically acclaimed and recognized with industry awards, the concept paved the way for similar features including an ESPN Town Meeting the following year with former President Bill Clinton.
