The opening of Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens promises to be the biggest movie event of the year, and ESPN will be part of the buildup.

Tonight on ESPN’s Monday Night Football, the new Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer will debut during halftime of the New York Giants-Philadelphia Eagles game (8:15 p.m. ET/5:15 p.m. PT). The Spanish language version of the trailer also will air on ESPN Deportes simultaneously.

Monday Night Football has always been more than a football game – it’s a pop culture touchstone,” said ESPN Executive Vice President, Production and Programming John Wildhack. “Debuting the trailer for one of the year’s most anticipated films Monday night is a unique opportunity to combine Star Wars with MNF, two special properties that transcend audiences.”

In conjunction with the trailer debut, the Walt Disney Company – which owns ESPN – is providing unprecedented company-wide on-air and social support (#TheForceAwakens) as well as tying in events and special activities for the day of the trailer release.

Following the trailer launch, tickets to Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be on sale everywhere movie tickets are sold. The film opens in U.S. theaters on Dec. 18.
