#TBT: ESPN analyst, former Crew star Moreno recalls his MLS Cup ’08 highlights

Sunday marks ESPN’s 20th consecutive MLS Cup telecast

· Coverage begins Friday on ESPN FC (ESPN2 at 5 p.m. ET; ESPNEWS at 6 p.m.) from MAPFRE Stadium. Host: Adrian Healey; Analysts: Taylor Twellman, Kasey Keller and Alejandro Moreno
· Sunday, ESPN at 4:25 p.m.: Columbus Crew SC vs. Portland Timbers with Healey, Twellman and reporter Mónica Gónzalez

Alejandro Moreno, now in his fifth season as an ESPN soccer analyst, will join anchor Max Bretos and analyst Kasey Keller on-set from MAPFRE Stadium for the network’s studio coverage of the 2015 MLS Cup this weekend (see sidebar).

This week’s #TBT looks back at the 2008 MLS Cup, when Moreno was a striker for the Columbus Crew. He scored the first goal in the Crew’s 3-1 victory over the New York Red Bulls. The victory helped Moreno and his teammates earn a special place in the hearts of the Nordeckes – Columbus Crew SC’s supporters’ group.

While Moreno won three MLS Cups with three different teams (LA Galaxy, Houston Dynamo and the Crew), the 2008 MLS Cup trophy holds a special place in his heart. He describes his feelings about that match and the Crew fans in the captions of the photo gallery above.
