Billy Baldwin returns home to NYC for ESPN’s presentation of NCAA “Mat Madness”

In this role, Billy Baldwin is the face of ESPN’s promotional campaign for the NCAA Wrestling Championships.

The City That Never Sleeps and the historic Madison Square Garden are hosting the NCAA Wrestling Championships – a three day (March 17-19), six session event (ESPN, ESPNU and ESPN3) that culminates Saturday night in primetime on ESPN (8 p.m. ET).

For actor, producer and writer Billy Baldwin, it’s a homecoming. The former Binghamton University wrestler returns to his native city to, once again, be a part of ESPN’s coverage.

“I enjoy being an ambassador for the sport,” says Baldwin, now in his third year working the event for ESPN.

On Thursday morning, prior to the first session, Baldwin joined ABCNews.com to give viewers some insight into the sport and share storylines that could play out over the course of the three days. He also enlisted the help of two wrestlers to demonstrate some moves during the 15-plus minute interview.

Baldwin is part of an ESPN crew whose work on the championship is a labor of love over the course of three days with nearly 20 hours of live coverage, across various networks and culminating with the crowning of individual and team champions.

“It is the oldest sport, in the greatest city, in the world’s most famous arena,” Baldwin says.
