Schefter primed for NFL Free Agency kickoff today

NFL Insider reflects on growth of offseason events

NFL Free Agency officially begins at 4 p.m. ET today and ESPN has a 4.5-hour block of television coverage planned, including two SportsCenter Specials and NFL Live.

Beginning at 1:30 p.m., Wendi Nix and Trey Wingo will co-host three consecutive shows featuring ESPN’s top NFL insiders, experts and newsbreakers. Adam Schefter and Chris Mortensen, who preview the start of the NFL’s new league year on Schefter’s latest “Know Them From Adam” ESPN Audio podcast, will again play prominent roles.

A year ago, The MMQB chronicled “24 Hours with Schefter” at the start of free agency. In the video above, the veteran NFL Insider discusses how offseason events like this have become so much bigger than when he first started covering the league more than two decades ago.

Editor’s Note: ESPN.com’s extensive coverage this week includes Kevin Seifert and Dan Graziano’sMega-Guide to NFL Free Agency,” Bill Barnwell’s free agency grades and regular NFL Nation updates on all 32 teams.

Bill Hofheimer produced the video.
