ESPN+, ESPN Deportes’ ElClásico Coverage Incorporates Madrid’s Iconic Locations

ElClásico, the two matches between Real Madrid and FC Barcelona every LaLiga season, is considered the most popular domestic club rivalry in football.
To coordinating producer Gisela Leyva and her ESPN content creation team, the matches provide a unique platform to innovate. Sunday’s ElClásico on ESPN+ and ESPN Deportes (10:15 a.m. ET) – the jewel of ESPN ESPAÑA Week with 10 Days of coverage from Spain – presents another opportunity to boost the company’s coverage of LaLiga.
“We used this mobile studio set for ElClásico at Camp Nou last October,” said Leyva, an expert in international soccer event coverage. “Instead of bringing the set to the stadium for game day, this time we are elevating our presentation by rolling with the culture and originating from iconic locations in Madrid like Plaza de Cibeles and Plaza De Las Ventas as a lead into ElClásico.”
The double-decker mobile studio set was in the center of buzzing Plaza de Cibeles in Madrid yesterday to kick off the coverage of ESPN’s Countdown to ElClásico. The location today is at the biggest bullfighting ring in Spain, Plaza de Las Ventas, and it will return to Cibeles tomorrow.
At each stop, the backdrop contributes to a presentation that captures the sense of place.
