Elle Duncan Offers Heartwarming Tribute To Her Daughter Through New Book For You, I Will
On Good Morning America's GMA3, the SportsCenter anchor explained writing the children's book for Eva, 5, "would be an opportunity to meet my daughter where she's at"
NEW YORK – Wednesday on ABC’s Good Morning America’s GMA3: What You Need to Know, ESPN host and SportsCenter anchor Elle Duncan revealed her latest labor of love, For You, I Will, a children’s book published just in time for Mother’s Day.
Inspired by a heartfelt letter Duncan penned to her daughter Eva at age two, the book celebrates Black womanhood.
Originally conceived during an Andscape special titled Love Letters to Black Women, the book evolved into a beautiful publication by Disney Publishing, marking a journey of empowerment and enlightenment.
“I thought, this would be an opportunity to meet my daughter where she’s at,” Duncan shared during her interview on GMA. “She’s 5 now and can read the book herself.
“It’s a threefold approach – it’s a vow for mothers to their daughters, it’s for children and the illustrations, and also there’s a little bit of history that’s weaved in.”
Duncan emphasizes the book’s core message of joy, challenging the notion that the Black experience is solely defined by trauma.
“I wanted my daughter to understand the abundance of joy and sisterhood,” Duncan remarked, highlighting the importance of preparing her daughter for life.
Through For You, I Will, Duncan invites readers to revel in the laughter, embrace the playfulness, and bask in the celebration that is inherent to being a mother.
This stop at GMA’s studios is part of a typically busy week for Duncan, as she hosted a panel at the espnW Summit on Thursday as well as prepped for NBA and WNBA hosting duties next week.
