How (and why!) ESPN College Sports Reporter David Hale Spent 24 Hours Inside a Daytona Beach Buc-ee’s

David Hale and Andrea Adelson, cohosts of ACC Network’s Inside ACCess, have made it a yearly tradition to place a friendly wager on their college football picks competition. In 2022, Adelson, who isn’t fond of apple pie, had to eat a slice after losing. In 2023, Hale, who has an aversion to coconut cream, was pied in the face with one after he lost the competition.

For the 2024 season, the stakes were raised significantly higher.

Thanks to the creative minds of Hale and Adelson’s social media followers, a punishment was voted upon before the season: the loser must spend 24 straight hours in a Buc-ee’s, the gas station/convenience store chain.

Flash forward to April 28, after Hale once again came out on the losing end, it was time for him to eat crow (and a healthy serving of Beaver nuggets, brisket and beef jerky).

“Watching David’s crazy idea come to life was an absolute joy. The buy-in and creativity from he, Andrea, and producer Cody Fuentes was a great reminder that sports TV should be fun. Brainstorming for next season’s bet is already in the works, but it will be hard to top this.” – Claire Atkins, ACC Network Sr. Managing Producer

A feature on David’s 24-hour journey to Buc-ee’s will debut May 14 at 4 p.m. ET during the season finale of Inside ACCess.
