The Vibes Behind ‘Vibe Check’

Breaking the Mold: A Behind-the-Scenes Look at the Team Powering 'Vibe Check'

Following ‘Vibe Check’s launch on June 30, the show’s look and feel demonstrates why this is the first of its kind. From the set to the camera work to the overall vibes, ‘Vibe Check’ on Disney+ is showcasing the talent of ESPN’s deep bench of commentators and behind-the-scenes crew.

Shelby Lacy, Digital Video Producer II:

As you’ve launched ‘Vibe Check’, what is the biggest thing from a production aspect that makes this show stand out?

“From a production standpoint, the biggest thing that makes ‘Vibe Check’ stand out is how intentionally it was built around the personalities of our hosts and how it is shot. Everything from the pacing to the visual aesthetic, to the way we tee up discussions. It’s crafted to feel authentic to the Big 3 and our other female commentators. It’s not just a sports show, it’s a personality-forward experience. We also made a point to embrace social media and cultural moments in a way that feels native to how people consume content today. That blend of structure and spontaneity, polish and personality, is what makes the show so fresh and different.”

Lenaya Price, Studio Operator II:

Talk us through your approach with how ‘Vibe Check’ is shot.

“From day one, the goal with ‘Vibe Check’ was to break away from how we normally frame our camera shoots and create something innovative. Working alongside director Bryan Metzger, we stayed locked in on that vision during rehearsals, always pushing to bring something different and visually fresh to the screen.”

Shea Byram, Director, Studio Design & Development:

‘Vibe Check’s studio certainly brings the vibes for the show. What are the things you are most proud of that make this set different than most?

“The best part of the ‘Vibe Check’ set is that it doesn’t look or feel like a TV studio! We created a comfortable living room space with cozy furnishings, soft lighting, plants, a window, and a bar—making it feel more like a place you’d want to hang out with friends and listen to music than a typical sports talk show.”

‘Vibe Check’ streams live exclusively on Disney+ every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 5 p.m. ET.
