Ninth annual Jimmy V Week raises record $3.2 Million for cancer research

The ninth annual Jimmy V Week smashed records, raising $3.2 million for The V Foundation for Cancer Research – a million more than the previous fundraising record of $2.2 million in 2014. In nine years, ESPN’s annual fundraiser has raised an incredible $13.7 million for cancer research.

So what was the change that pushed us over the $3 million mark?

This year, we launched a new awareness campaign that showcased powerful stories of brave cancer fighters, survivors and supporters. Stuart Scott famously remarked, “Our life’s journey is really about the people who touch us.”

Those words helped to inspire the campaign, dubbed Your Fight is Our Fight, which aired throughout Jimmy V Week. These emotionally-charged vignettes were from the view of real cancer patients and their support system showing the raw emotion that comes from a cancer diagnosis, going through radiation/chemo and finally being in remission. Additionally, more than $1.2 million was generously presented to The V Foundation at the Jimmy V Men’s Basketball Classic Presented by Corona from Corona, Hooters, the Champions League and New York Road Runners with Team V.

And, finally, we could never raise this kind of money without the thousands of donors that have been inspired by Jim Valvano, Stuart Scott and their own family and friends that have bravely fought this terrible disease.

Your fight is our fight — together we can stop cancer.
