Behind The Scenes

Week in review

Comedian Frank Caliendo stopped by the set of Mike and Mike in the Morning to show off his many impersonations this week. Besides such icons as Morgan Freeman and Bob Schieffer, Caliendo impersonated numerous ESPN employees including: Dan Le Batard, Stephen A. Smith and Mike and Mike‘s host Mike Golic.

Mike Greenberg could barely stay in his chair when Caliendo began mocking the way the co-hosts go into their breaks. More on that story here.

Now here’s what happened this week at Front Row:

•Check out these great photos from MLB, MLS and Bristol Car Washes, just a sample of the work our ESPN Images staff produces every week.

•ESPN’s It’s Not Crazy. It’s Sports campaign hit the air this week. The project featured a short trailer and an eight-minute documentary about the trend of sports-themed funerals and extraordinary expressions of sports fandom post mortem. Watch the clips here.

•ESPN’s coverage of the 2012 Olympics is dependent on compliance with non-rights holders’ restrictions. Despite the limitations, ESPN takes great lengths to provide viewers with the best coverage possible. Details here.

•Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald brought along his stylist Arturo Castañeda during a recent visit to ESPN. Before Fitzgerald’s SportsCenter interview with Kevin Negandhi, Castañeda noticed something a little astray in the anchor’s look.

•ESPN employees were at a local amusement park this week to film dozens of 11-and-12 year-olds enjoying a “baseball carnival” for segments to be used in ESPN’s Little League World Series championship coverage from Williamsport, Pa. later this month.
