“I’m absolutely buzzing for the FA Cup Final and the fact that we will do a show around it.”

After leaving Bristol for the UK last week, ESPN reporter Alexis Nunes' first major assignment in London is headlining ESPN’s coverage of the Manchester City-Watford FA Cup Final match on Saturday (11:55 a.m. ET, exclusively on ESPN+)

Alexis Nunes joined ESPN in October 2014 and quickly established herself as a multi-sport journalist, covering football and cricket, her two favorite sports growing up in Kingston, Jamaica.

Last week, Nunes moved from Bristol, Conn., to London to expand her ESPN roles covering football for ESPN FC and cricket for ESPN Caribbean. Now based in an epicenter for both sports, Nunes’ first major assignment in London is headlining ESPN’s coverage of the Manchester City-Watford FA Cup Final match on Saturday (11:55 a.m. ET, exclusively on ESPN+). Nunes discusses her move and FA Cup Final assignment with Front Row:

What are your primary job responsibilities in the United Kingdom?
My job responsibilities here in the UK will just expand what I was doing in Bristol. I am finally in one of the hubs of the two sports I cover. I will split my time between cricket and football – hosting and reporting from our studio in Hammersmith (West London), as well as from the different grounds and stadiums. I expect to do a lot more on-the-road features and one-on-one interviews with athletes in both sports.

How will you balance both cricket and football?
The ICC Cricket World Cup is coming up and of course, that is a marquee event on the cricket calendar [see her tweet at the bottom of the post]. We are rights holders in the Caribbean. So, as of the end of May, I’ll be fully focused on that right up until the final in mid-July. Great timing since it falls just outside the club football season. There is always cricket going on and I am definitely looking forward to the assignments covering the English county cricket season. Any cricket fan will tell you just how respected the tradition of county cricket is.

The English Premier League, other European leagues and club cup competitions will start again in August. I will dive, headfirst, into the stories of football in Europe for ESPN FC.

How will fans benefit from your vantage point on the sidelines leading into the FA Cup Final?
I’m absolutely buzzing for the FA Cup Final and the fact that we will do a show around it. Craig Burley and I will be pitch-side and have access to the players and all the action before the whistle is blown. That will definitely give fans an up-close and personal feel to the historic event. Whether it is Manchester City winning the domestic treble or Watford winning their first title, we definitely will be aiming to let the viewers feel and understand the magic of the FA Cup.

EDITOR’S NOTE: Nunes and ESPN pundit Craig Burley will provide reports from Wembley Stadium today on the ESPN FC FA Cup Final preview show (ESPN+, 7 p.m. ET). Tomorrow at 11 a.m., Nunes and Burley host FA Cup Countdown Live on Twitter, ESPN App and YouTube from the pitch at Wembley. FA Cup Final veterans Burley, Shaka Hislop and Steve Nicol reflect on their experiences in this Front Row post.
