Formula For Big Game Telecast Success: Being Prepared For Anything And Everything

Director Derek Mobley and producer Bill Bonnell bring more than 14 years of teamwork into guiding ESPN's College Football Playoff National Championship Game presentation tonight

NEW ORLEANS – Director Derek Mobley and producer Bill Bonnell have been teammates on college football telecasts since 2006 – or when star quarterbacks Trevor Lawrence and Joe Burrow were grade-schoolers.

Tonight at 8 ET, Bonnell and Mobley will be at the helm of ESPN’s multiplatform presentation of the College Football Playoff National Championship Game as Burrow’s No. 1 LSU duels Lawrence’s No. 3 Clemson. Bonnell and Mobley consistently work together on signature games, including ABC’s Saturday Night Football, the 2019 Fiesta Bowl and tonight’s showdown in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, their 11th national championship game.

In the video above, the pair talk about preparing for big game coverage – which might include indulging in one superstition.

Shelby L. Lacy and Derek Volner produced the video.
