Dickie V Salutes Stephen A. Smith’s V Foundation Fundraising Efforts

First Take featured commentator's efforts helped raise $7.2M for cancer research as part of recent Dick Vitale Gala

Dickie V might be best known for his memorable catchphrases and enthusiastic play call, but where he’s made his most personal mark is on pediatric cancer research.

ESPN college basketball commentator Dick Vitale once again joined forces with the V Foundation and raised $7.2 million as part of the Dick Vitale Gala last week. Since the inception of the Gala in 2006, Vitale and his team have raised more than $30 million for pediatric cancer.

This year’s Gala took place virtually because of the COVID-19 pandemic, but what did not change was the evening’s spirit. Vitale honored those who have made a difference in the fight against cancer, including Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians, Gonzaga men’s basketball coach Mark Few and ESPN First Take featured commentator Stephen A. Smith.

On Monday, Vitale joined First Take to personally thank Smith for his help in raising funds at the Gala to help kids who are battling cancer (see video above).
