Feel Good Friday: Stan Verrett Works With Young Storytellers and LeBron James’ I PROMISE School
We can all use some feel-goods these days; Front Row will bring you all the feels on Fridays through the goodness of familiar ESPN faces
One of the regular Friday highlights now ingrained in daytime SportsCenters is a segment called “Feel Good Friday.” It’s self-explanatory.
Here at Front Row, we have established our own FGF and it continues today with highlighting the efforts from SportsCenter anchors Stan Verrett, Jay Harris, and Elle Duncan.
They’ve each worked with students at NBA star LeBron James’ I PROMISE elementary school in Akron, Ohio, with the Young Storytellers initiative.
Young Storytellers is an organization designed to spark creative self-discovery through storytelling. The programs highlight young people as the center of their own narratives, emphasize that their stories matter, and celebrate their unique voices as the ones telling them.
Working collaboratively in small groups, students from James’ I PROMISE elementary school, work with a pair mentors to write stories inspired by their own imaginations and experiences. Each week, for six weeks, volunteers are leading a small group of students to create and develop these wonderful scripts.
ESPN and The Walt Disney Television Group are providing the mentors for this rendition of the program, three from each business segment. ESPN’s mentors are SportsCenter anchors and, some of the best storytellers we have: Harris, Duncan, and Verrett.
In this video for Front Row, Verrett explains his commitment to this cause.
