ESPN Senior Writer, Fantasy Analyst Dr. André Snellings Has Basketball On The Brain

Before he appears on FIRSTinspires Twitch tonight, Snellings explains how his Ph.D. in biomedical engineering relates to his hoops analysis

Dr. André Snellings joined the ESPN team as a senior writer back in 2017, but before that, he had a 16-year career as a biomedical engineer.

In addition to doing brain and spinal cord research utilizing microelectrodes, specifically for treating ailments like Parkinson’s disease, he was also a senior writer and analyst for Rotowire and a contributor to several fantasy sports outlets – putting his Ph.D. in biomedical engineering to work in tandem with his basketball fanaticism.

The result? He’s able to understand and interpret the game in unusual ways, resulting in unique insight for fans.

This evening at 5:30 p.m. ET, Snellings will spread his love of STEM and basketball with FIRST’s Beyond the Bots episode, “Changing the Game: STEM, Sports & Advancing Equity” on Twitch.com/FIRSTinspires.

Snellings talks about science and basketball in the video above.

Jon McLeod produced the video.

Disney and Lucasfilm team up with FIRST to expand access to science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) learning to more young people around the world to help them envision a brighter, more inclusive future. ESPN is proud to join forces with this incredible team to showcase the many opportunities for young people to develop a career in sports using STEM.
