Where It Belongs: ACC Network Embarks On Its First-Ever “Road Trip”

Here's why ACC Network production is visiting 14 campuses in 23 days to stir fall football fever in the midst of summer

ACC Network (ACCN), the 24/7 national platform dedicated to ACC sports, is in the midst of a first-ever 14-campus road trip surrounding the preseason football camps leading up to the start of the season. Front Row caught up with ACCN coordinating producer Aaron Katzman to talk about this unique opportunity.

Where did the idea to visit all 14 ACC football campuses stem from?
After not traveling during the 2020 football season, we felt it was important to get back on the road, back on campuses, talk to coaches, watch teams practice in person and see the unique aspects of each program that make the ACC so special. ACC Commissioner Jim Phillips indicated his desire to prioritize football and this road-show concept is a unique way to peel back the curtain on what fall camp looks like for each team. We’ve received such a warm welcome from the schools and look forward to what will be a tremendous season.

Another reason why this inaugural road trip is so special is the opportunity to produce these shows out of each campuses’ state-of-the-art production control rooms. It’s the first time we are creating studio programming from these facilities.

Why is it important for ACCN to embark on this preseason road trip?
As ACCN approaches its second anniversary, we believe it’s imperative to continue to develop our relationships with each school and its football program. By embarking on this project, our crews are able to lay the foundation for the endless storylines that will, without a doubt, produce memorable content throughout the football season. Our on-air commentators and producers have the chance to get to campuses, meet with coaches, foster relationships, gain first-hand insight and learn things that we’ll continue to use all season.

Another reason why this inaugural road trip is so special is the opportunity to produce these shows out of each campuses’ state-of-the-art production control rooms. It’s the first time we are creating studio programming from these facilities. Until now, school production groups have only worked on ACCN live event productions, so the opportunity to work together on this venture only helps to strengthen our partnership with each school.

What should fans expect to see from this month-long road trip?
The goal of the ACC Football Road Trip is to showcase the best that each of the 14 football programs has to offer. The shows will feature interviews with head coaches and star players, as well as “sense of place” components that teach fans about their program. Our producers and directors have done an incredible job of creating unique and memorable elements for each show that will inform and entertain viewers.
